Electric Service Stations in the UK
UK All Electric Service Stations
The Problems and Solutions facing EV Charging Stations
Back in 2020 Gridserve announced, the opening of the UK’s first All-Electric Service Station in Braintree, Essex. One of the first of it’s kind. The station offered visitors the chance to you can plug-in and charge using 100% renewably powered, ultra-fast charging. The station started a new trend by including a coffee shop, a lounge area, exercise bikes, office space – even a grocery store as well.
Something we get asked a lot when folk are considering our All Electric e-NV200 CamperCar is the perennial question: “Where can I charge it up?” It looks like this is part of the answer – Gridserve aimed to open 100 of these sites by 2025. They beat their target, launching 190 by the end of 2025.
Daniel took our new All Electric e-NV200 CamperCar to have a look and spoke to one of the managers in the new Braintree site. Watch the video above to see our tour of the first site.

Is There Problems with EV Charging Stations?
One of the biggest issues facing electric vehicles is being able to find a charging station. Reports stating that almost 30% of all public EV charging stations face problems such as vandalism, technical faults and damage, could on the surface look bad. However, EV infrastructure is still growing despite these issues.
The Government set a target of 300,000 for public EV chargers and we are well on track to hit that number by the goal of 2030. This is due to the promised government ban in 2030 of the sale of new petrol vehicles.
So overall, good News for Those Considering an Electric Campervan . Especially considering, over 3,900 Supermarkets in the UK Now Offer EV Charge Points.
Nearly 3,000 new electric vehicle (EV) charge points have been installed at supermarkets since 2020, according to Zap-Map* and the RAC. Rapid chargers at supermarkets have increased dramatically. The number of supermarkets with charging is approximately 15% and steadily growing year-on-year.
The benefits for any supermarket are obvious – while you charge your electric campervan they hope you will spend the 45 minutes or so shopping in store!
As time goes on, conditions are set to continue to improve for electric vehicle owners. As we draw closer to 2026, the average distance to a public EV charging station is just under 4 miles.
